This apprenticeship unit is for existing employed engineering operatives and technicians who, with the support of their employer, need to upskill in mechanical fitting and assembly fundamentals.

- Mechanical. Diagnostic checks and methods for fault identification in mechanical operations.
- Planning, prioritisation, organisation, and time management techniques.
- Principles and methods of measuring and marking out materials.
- Consumables, tools, equipment and machinery used during mechanical activities.
- Methods of interpreting relevant information from mechanical specifications, drawings and technical information.
- Mechanical. Quality requirements for mechanical operations.
- Mechanical. Forming, component and assembly fitting techniques: presswork, welding, fastening methods, joint integrity and automated assembly.
- Mechanical. Characteristics and properties of materials used in mechanical operations.
- Awareness of health and safety regulations, standards, and guidance and impact on role. Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (CoSHH). Fire safety. Hazards and risks. - Measure and mark out materials as part of mechanical activities.
- Follow procedures in compliance with health and safety regulations, standards, and guidance.
- Use planning, prioritising, organising, and time management techniques to plan mechanical activities.
- Mechanical. Identify and select material for mechanical operations.
- Mechanical. Complete mechanical operations in line with mechanical based safe working practices and procedures.
- Mechanical. Carry out quality checks before, during and after mechanical operations.
